Online Casino BTDino Keeps climbing

I see that when searching for Online Casino BTDino in MSN, my blog here keeps climbing in the serps. But I can’t pinpoint what exactly is the reason for this strange behaviour. The blog is currently on the top of the second page - witch of course is nice. But it still is strange. There are not many inbound links with “Online Casino BTDino” in the anchor text. The page that ranks for it hardly mentions the phrase.

Odd.

WordPress updated to version 2

Finally I took the time to upgrade WordPress (the blog-script for this blog) to version 2.0

The Guys at WordPress has done a beautiful job with this upgrade. I did not have any problems, and the upgrade instructions were extremely helpful and simple to follow.

Thumbs up, guys!

This also gave me access to a few very interesting Plugins. One of them is a good comment-spam filter, the other creates technorati-tags. It will be very interesting to see how it all works.

Free domain name

I just stumbled over a site giving out free .be domains for one year. I thought you might be interested to check it out at Nucleus site, and grab one if you need a domain for a project.

Exact key phrase ranking quickly

I have seen that the first 3 positions ranking for v7ndotcom elursrebmem is domains containing the exact key phrase. This is another indication that the 3 phase theory in my last post has some viability. It seems that the first dataset for a new key phrase is more or less raw data.

What will be interesting to see is how it will change over time.

Thanks John for this wonderful contest. It gives so much interesting data regarding what is going on under the hood of Google’s search engine.

But, on a side note: Would I ever work with a key phrase based sitename? No way! How can you build confidence and credability for a site named v7ndotcom-elursrebmem-some-other-keywords.com?

Google’s “washing machine”

It looks like the contest pages fluctuates quite heavily still when I search for v7ndotcom elursrebmem. Yesterday I saw from zero to 32k results. Today I can see 11k results when searching through www.google.com

This tells me that it is gonna take some time until the results could be considered reliable.

I have been working quite hard today, on four different sites, to get them up in the rankings. So far, I have seen one of my sites in the top 400 range. Oddly enough I did not expect this site to rank at all yet.

To me it looks like the first set of data that has been gathered by Google is getting spit out more or less in a raw format.
This also indicates something I have seen earlier, that Google works with the data in several phases.

First phase:
Gather as much data as possible. Spit out the results more or less raw.
I base this observation on the fact that I have a site with a feed from this blog. Look at the feed section on the right side of http://euroheadline.com

The site ranked at 230ish place when I saw the first dataset. At that moment the keyword phrase was only mentioned one time - in the feed text. No title tag, no inbound links. Key phrase in the text one time.

If what I see here is correct, Google does not put much weight on ranking in the first set of results. I have made a similar observation on another occation.

Second phase:
Run data against historical data. Sort the results based on inbound links and the PR they have been given.

In this phase I believe Google starts looking at the dataset through their filters. They wash the set against different filters, and takes out the results that does not belong there. Finally they sorts the records and spits out a “washed” set of data.

Third phase:
Rinse and repeat the second phase.

If my observations are correct, this means a few things.
It means that it is outmost important to be careful on the linkbuilding. If you throw too many links at an url, you will later be cought in a filter when the url is “washed”. It also means that you have no control of knowing when the url will be released from the filter applied to it.

In my understanding of the algorithms, the rulesets of the filters works like a loop. And the url will stay in the loop until it does not trigger any new “if” sentences.

I have seen this happen on on site, that keeps getting thrown back of the resultset as long as I keep throwing new links at it.

So my advice here is simple. If your site is cought by the sandbox, stop generating inbound links for it untill it starts moving upwards in the serps.

OK. That was todays observations.

What do you think? Am I onto something here?

SEO contest starts in 1 day and 3 hours

The search engine marketing contest of v7n starts tomorrow january the 15th at noon standard pacific time and I feel well prepared for participating. I have decided to use this blog for the contest, and have teamed up with my wife Ania to blog about it - and whatever else we might come up with that might help our rankings as soon at the key phrase has been released by John.

It is a long time since I felt so excited about anything web-related. And frankly, I have never won anything in my life, except my 3 children and my beautiful and clever wife of course :)

This contest will be really interesting, since it looks like quite a few people from DigitalPoint’s forums has decided to participate.

A controversial and honest search engine marketing article found by Compar

Being a member on many forums and sites, I see a sea of bullshit when it comes to what works, and does not regarding the marketing of your site. I just read a very interesting thread posted by Compar on DigitalPoint’s forums.

Read the thread and judge for yourself.

Especially the line … “Just set out to link as if your site traffic depended on
it, and that Google did not exist.”

Makes sense to me.

Joomla in Norway has been born

It is a big thing for me to announce that Joomla i Norge will from tomorrow be ready for “business”. This is a community driven initiative made for and by Joomla! enthusiasts from Norway. We were a few people that saw a need for a more organized structure to building the brand name of Joomla! in Norway, so we decided to establish a foundation, and a new website.

Online Casino BTDino

I thought I’ll give it a shot to see if I can rank well for Online Casino BTDino in MSN. This is a competition with USD 1.500 for the top spot in MSN.

To participate you have to have the text under on the page you compete with.

It will be interesting to see if it is true as I think that it is not really needed to have many incomming links for this page to be able to rank well. Oh well. There is a comming up more and more of these competitions. Maybe this is something that will be possible to make a living out of?

What do you think? Will these contests enter the olympic games one day?

I participated in the challenging search engine optimization competition
organized by BeTheDealer online casino gambling. I won the competition :)

Actually it seems like Online Casino BTDino is not so dependent on incomming links to climb in MSN, as this post now ranks at the third page in the serps. Not bad for just a few days, since I created this Online Casino BTDino page.

I’m experimenting a bit with the onpage content to see how it affects my rank. We will see in a couple days or so.
